This compound is naturally produced in human blood cells according to the process described above, an enzyme called NADPH oxidase (Step 1) uses oxygen and water to manufacture peroxide (H2O2). Another enzyme called MPO (myeloperoxidase) (Step 2) then uses the peroxide and adds chlorine (which it takes from the cellular fluid) to the peroxide to form HOCl – which is our immune molecule.
